Today kicks off another year of the Jazzinec International Music Festival in Trutnov.

This 12th year of jazz music will offer listeners 12 concerts of various genres. The inaugural concert will start things off in the spirit of desert blues with Tartit, arriving in Trutnov from Mali. Taking part in the festival will be Zdenek Bina. After the breakup of his group 123 Min, he'll be appearing for the first time as part of a new acoustic duo with Jan Urbanec. At the start of March in Trutnov, Erik Truffaz, currently the best European trumpeter, will be on stage with his latest project. During the second half of March, listeners can look forward to Bratri Ebenove and the first meeting of Trutnov musicians commemorating the 750th anniversary of the first written note of Trutnov as a city. At the end of March, the British quartet formed around pianist Harry Waters will be appearing for the first time in Central Europe. Harry is the son of Roger Waters from Pink Floyd. The big star this year will be American drummer Poogie Bell, who'll be playing one concert with a Czech/Slovak group put together by Juraj Tatar.
The last Jazzinec concert of the year will feature, among others, the New York-based band of bassist Steve Clark. More information about the program and individual concerts may be found at www.jazzinec.cz.
Funding for the festival is being provided by the Trutnov City Hall, the Hradec Kralove Region, the Ministry of Culture, as well as individual sponsors. None of the concerts is yet sold out but interest in the performances is strong.
