The existing building, originally constructed in the 1970s, was completely stripped down to its concrete frame as part of the renovation, allowing for its stabilization and modernization in line with current construction standards. A key change was the addition of an extra floor, which not only increased the capacity to 59 beds but also optimized the internal layout of the space.
The renovation focused on creating a fully barrier-free environment. The building was equipped with two passenger elevators and one freight elevator, significantly improving accessibility to all floors. A central feature of the design is the two-story atrium, which adds a sense of openness and brings in natural light, contributing to a healthier indoor climate.
The façade was entirely renewed and insulated, helping to reduce energy consumption and ensuring better thermal comfort for residents. Interior spaces were reorganized into smaller clusters, providing more privacy and a more efficient use of living areas. Each cluster includes a dining area with a kitchenette, a living wall, and comfortable seating.
The renovation also included upgrades to the outdoor areas. The original greenery was preserved and complemented with new elements, including a rectangular area with senior fitness equipment, encouraging active leisure time. New paved paths and walkways ensure comfortable movement around the home.
Thanks to these extensive improvements, the previously outdated building has been transformed into a modern facility that meets today’s standards for comfort, safety, and energy efficiency. The renovation of the Bojčenkova Senior Home represents an important step forward in enhancing elderly care in Prague’s District 14 and creates an environment that reflects the needs and expectations of its residents.
